Look of the Week

I know, I know not another awards show posting. These three dresses happen to be from the Spirit Awards this past weekend but I LOVE them and it's part of my introduction to the look of the week post. Jessica Alba glows in this lilac Dior dress. Michelle Willams is a big fan of sleeveless shifts and I love this striped Chloe interpretation. Finally, Cammie D. is wearing a fun striped rugby dress from Michael Kors. A note about horizontal stripes - anyone can wear them as long as they are in proportion with your body. Bigger woman should wear big stripes, petite woman should wear small lines.

The After Parties

Cheryl Crow and Penelope Cruz carried the evening's trends into the early hours of the morning at the many Oscar parties. Molly Sims' does color well in this grecian like dress. I LOVE Kate Bosworth's look as well as Jessica Alba 's. Short dresses can be worn to dressier events; the key is to get the color, cut and accessories just right. Christine Taylor is one we don't see often but the simple dress looks fabulous on her as does Sharon Stone's black full-length number (and that's the only time I'll probably ever compliment Sharon's attire). I'm an Olivia Wilde style fan and this dress is the reason why. Gorgeous! Reese Witherspoon did not pull off this black and cobalt blue dress. I think it's too much fabric for her small frame and a little too high fashion for her.

Oscar Recap

Here is the remainder of dresses from Sunday evening. I didn't mean to post all black gowns but that's how it turned out. As you can see, the asymmetrical and sweetheart neckline trend continues. I posted the last picture of Marion Cotillard because its pretty much the same dress as Sarah Jessica's but a different color and neckline. They are both belted tulle ball gowns by Christian Dior Haute Couture. I have to say, that after some serious contemplating, I'm not really a fan of either Dior.

After all the recap I've chosen the best and worst dressed of the evening:
Top 3
Melissa George, in Dolce & Gabbana
Taraji P. Henson, in Roberto Cavalli
Halle Berry in Marchesa
*I have to acknowledge Freida Pinto's choice. Not only did she go with a bold color for a newcomer and for the evening but she also chose a somewhat different shape.
Bottom 3
Amanda Seyfried, in Valentino Couture
Heidi Klum, in RM by Roland Mouret
Beyonce, in Dereon

Waiting

I've been looking all over for tonight's dress pictures.

I'm noticing a lot of cream and champagne colors with beading and there appears to be only two major shapes - sweetheart and assymetrical necklines and column and mermaid skirts.

Really the only colors of the evening

There are a few dresses here I'm not crazy about on the carpet but some of them are translating better on stage under different lighting. SJP's mint green gown, which I'm still indecisive about, looked great on stage.

OMG

So I have been severely lacking in my posts as I just started a new job but now, there's so much to discuss. Fashion week, the Oscars...I'll try my best to keep up!

Here's a look at last year's Oscars best dressed (in my opinion)

Red was the dominant color for the evening although we never saw it take off as a trend afterwards. The one shouldered dress was big last year and I think we might see it on this year's carpet. We'll have to wait and see tonight!

This is just the beginning, there's 7 more days of eye candy to follow. My lookbook on style.com is crying out for an update. Look for posts on my favorite collections and recap of Fall trends. On a sad note, the word around town is that designers are reacting to the weathered economy with less elaborate collections; many of them are going as far as not showing at the tents to save money. SIGH

I'm in such a blogging mood but it's time to settle down with my Bazaar and some tea

Bazaar

I'm so glad I gave myself a Christmas gift this year - magazine subscriptions - it's the gift that keeps on giving. My first issue of Bazaar came today and it is fabulous. Sarah Jessica Parker is on the cover looking glamorous in an appropriate New York background. SO Sex and the City. I can't seem to find a picture but it's for the best. I'll let you be excited when you go buy it!
