Golden Globes

Award Season officially kicked off on January 11th with the Golden Globes. If you're like me, you watch more for the gowns than anything else. And, like me, you have an opinion on every red carpet dress. Some are to die for and others are, well...

Eva Mendes was my favorite of the evening:

OMG the necklace is perfection with the simplicity of the Dior dress. I'm always a sucker for turquoise. The dress reminds me of years' past fashion faves

My other favorite of the evening:

This dress is a breath of fresh air. I think Olivia Wilde is just gorgeous here. She kept her hair and jewelry simple and let the dress speak for itself. Although its not a new shape the color is so unexpected for an award show. You usually see bright, bold colors, shimmering golds or crisp whites but never pastels. Olivia needs to thank her stylist! I'll digress again and say this Reem Acra strapless gown reminds me of Charlize Theron's pastel frock

Those Chiffon layers are like a cloud...

Some other top contenders:

Kate Winslet in YSL and the evening's best accessory, Leo.

January Jones in Versace

Cameron Diaz in Chanel Haute Couture

Elizabeth Banks in J. Mendel

My bottom picks for the evening:

I do not hate the dress on Laura Linney at all, I love the Grecian-esque drapery of the chiffon (very difficult to make) with the cinched waist but, this could have been a show stopper in a different color. The shade of yellow is too similar to her skin tone.

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for Kristin Scott Thomas' dress. The color, fit and fabric is all so wrong on her.

I actually really love this shape on America and the reason I know that is because she's worn the same tea-lenght dress to every awards show for the past 3 years. It's great when you find a shape that works for your body but take elements from the style and find it in another dress. No one only looks good in one style

I am NOT an Angelina fan and this dress just makes it that much easier for me to dislike her. Like America, I'm sure Angie has worn this style before. She always goes for dresses in dreary colors that lack all shape. EW

It's hard for me to say anything bad about Tina Fey but this dress does nothing for her. Despite the plunging neck and jeweled neckline, the dress somehow remains nondescript. She wore something similar to the Emmys and I was not partial

This dress really is stunning but I dislike the neckline for the same reason I don't like most strapless dresses - the straight top. The cut is making her appear short. A simple sweetheart neck would magically elongate her body

Purple is obviously still a big color trend carrying over from fall but I so dislike the shape of this dress on Debra. This looks like a dress that was supposed to be strapless and they added straps just because. This is an 80s prom dress gone wrong and I will blame that on Rachel Zoe.

According to some reviews, Blake Lively was one of the best dressed but I do not like this dress on her. Perhaps the problem is her poor posture but mostly it looks too tight and the shoes are too heavy for an evening dress. I will add that the color is fab on her though!

I can't get past how thin this girl is. I've never seen her before this evening so I cannot dismiss her if this is her natural weight but this dress is too much for such a tiny person. She looks like a little girl playing dress up and really...it's just not that pretty. I refuse to believe there weren't better dresses out there.

I don't even care how ugly this dress is. I'm requesting Renee just find her dresses somewhere other than Carolina Herrera. I love CH but another designer's perspective can offer something new for Renee. As my grandmother used to say "that's why they make chocolate and vanilla"

Glenn looks like a robot going to the casino. I don't even understand.
